Share our journey!

Hi everyone! We know it’s been a long time since we’ve written, and we’d love to know how you all are doing, as well. We’re so thankful for all that God has been doing in our lives and are excited to share everything with you and get your prayers as well!

As you know, we returned to Paraguay last August after our commitment ceremony with our church here in Buenos Aires, so that Esther could finish up her thesis for her Psychology degree. Thanks to God, she did finish, and had her thesis defence in late December! I am really proud of her…and she’s just glad it is over!

December 31^st we arrived on our bus from Asunción to Buenos Aires. That day we were met by Rev. Thomas Hanks, Presbyterian pastor and founder of Other Sheep, a Christian ministry that works with and for sexual minorities. http://www.othersheep.com . He lives here in downtown Buenos Aires, and has another apartment that belongs to the foundation—normally used for visiting pastors, board members or journalists, it’s been our home for the past 5 months! We know we are extremely blessed by this; and not just because it is a wonderful place to stay, but also because of being able to be close to Tom…and his amazing library! I think the man may have every bible commentary ever published!

Thanks to God, Kati was able to find a job after only a few weeks of interviews, and she is settling in well to her new position in the Account Management department at Trusted Translations. She has had lots of great conversations there about God, the bible, and the lives of her co-workers. Honestly, we didn’t expect God would use her to do so much ministry there, but now we remember that God can use us anywhere!

Esther started taking Greek and Hebrew language courses as part of the first-year curriculum for a Master’s in Sacred Scriptures. Her seminary is the “Evangelical Institute of Superior Theological Studies” (http://www.isedet.edu.ar) and is one of the most-respected Protestant seminaries in Latin America. She is on track to become a pastor someday! God is good!

And she’s getting a chance to practice right now…we attend a gay Christian group here in Buenos Aires (www.cegla-argentina.com.ar) that is actually in the process of becoming a member church of MCC (www.mccchurch.org), a church begun by a gay pastor in California in the 1960´s. Esther has been elected by the whole congregation to be a part of the Planting Team! I love knowing that people see her joy, friendship, and wisdom as blessings, and am proud to stand by her side. And make as few suggestions as possible from the sidelines!

We’ve also both been blessed by being able to see our families, though we are far away. Esther recently took a trip back to Paraguay to gather some documents for her seminary, and got to see lots of loved ones. This week, Kati is taking a quick trip up to the States in order to see her family, go to a friend’s wedding, and bring her cat back! We know these trips have been gifts, and give thanks that God knows how difficult it is to be a “foreigner,” and give us a taste of home every once in a while. We are still praying lots about where we will be long-term…please join us!

Prayer Requests:

· For us to being earning enough to get our own apartment. Tom has been so kind to us, but we know God will want to use him to bless others soon!

· For Esther’s studies, that she may learn all God has for her and be blessed to come closer to Him that way!

· For long-term plans…will we stay here? Go to another country? Which one? We are not hurried to make these decisions, but don’t see any harm in starting the prayers a good way out!

· For our new baby church, that it may be knit together the way God desires!

Hola a todos! sabemos que ha pasado mucho tiempo desde la última vez que escribimos, nos encantaría saber como están y lo que están haciendo. Nosotras, Kati y Esther, estamos muy agradecidas por todo lo que Dios ha estado haciendo en nuestras vidas y estamos emocionadas por compartirlas con ustedes así como también deseamos que nos tengan presentes en sus oraciones.

Como algunos saben, volvimos a Paraguay, después de nuestra ceremonia de unión que tuvimos con nuestra iglesia aquí en Buenos Aires, para que Esther pudiera terminar la tesis y así obtener la licenciatura en Psicología Clínica. Gracias a Dios, ella finalizó la tesis y la defendió en los últimos días de diciembre! Estoy muy orgullosa de ella...y ella esta feliz de haberla terminado!

El 31 de diciembre llegamos en bus a Buenos Aires desde Asunción. Ese día nos encontramos con el Rev. Tom Hanks, pastor presbiteriano y fundador de Otras Ovejas, ministerio cristiano que trabaja contra la discriminación de las minorías sexuales. http://www.otrasovejas.org . El vive en el micro-centro de Buenos Aires, y tiene otro departamento que pertenece a la fundación-que normalmente se utiliza para recibir y albergar a pastores visitantes, miembros de la junta o periodistas- y que ha sido nuestro hogar por los últimos 5 meses! Sabemos que somos enormemente bendecidas al tener esto, y no solo porque es un lugar maravilloso para vivir, sino que también porque nos permite estar cerca de Tom...y de su increíble biblioteca! Creemos que este hombre tiene todos los comentarios bíblicos que se han publicado!

Gracias a Dios, Kati encontró un trabajo solo pocas semanas después de varias entrevistas, y ahora está cada vez más cómoda en su posición de Agente de Ventas en Trusted Translations. Ahí ella ha tenido oportunidad de tener buenas conversaciones con otros compañeros de trabajo acerca de Dios, la Biblia y la vida en general. Honestamente, no esperábamos que Dios pudiera utilizar su vida para el ministerio en el lugar de trabajo, pero ahora nos damos cuenta que habíamos olvidado que Dios nos puede usar en cualquier lugar!

Esther empezó con clases de idiomas Griego y Hebreo Bíblico como parte del currículum del primer año de la Maestría en Sagradas Escrituras que realiza en el Instituto Universitario Isedet http://www.isedet.edu.ar que es uno de los seminarios protestantes más respetados en Latinoamérica. Ella está en camino de ser pastora algún día! El Señor es bueno!

Además tiene la oportunidad de practicar ahora mismo....ya que asistimos a un grupo cristiano en Buenos Aires, www.cegla-argentina.com.ar que actualmente está en el proceso de ser una iglesia miembro de ICM, www.mccchurch.org, una iglesia iniciada en los años 60 por un pastor gay en California. Esther fue elegida por toda la congregación para ser parte del Equipo de Plantación! Me gusta ver como la gente ve su gozo, su amistad, y sabiduría como bendiciones, y estoy tan orgullosa de estar a su lado, y hacer pequeñas sugerencias desde el costado!

También, las dos hemos tenido la bendición de ser capaces de ver a nuestras respectivas familias, aunque estemos lejos geográficamente de ellas. Recientemente Esther hizo un corto viaje a Paraguay para hacer trámites para algunos documentos necesarios para el seminario, y al mismo tiempo vio a muchas personas que amamos. Esta semana Kati viajará a los Estados Unidos para ver a su familia, asistir a la boda de una amiga, y traer de vuelta a su gata! Nosotras sabemos que estos viajes han sido regalos de nuestro Señor, y damos gracias a Dios porque él sabe cuan difícil es ser “extranjero”, y por eso nos da una probadita con gusto a hogar de vez en cuando. Todavía estamos orando mucho por el lugar en donde vamos a estar por un periodo mas largo.

Peticiones de Oración:

· Por nuestros ingresos económicos, para que podamos tener un departamento propio. Tom ha sido muy amable con nosotras, pero sabemos que Dios quiere utilizarlo para bendecir también a otros pronto!

· Por los estudios de Esther, que ella pueda aprender todo lo que Dios tiene para ella para que pueda estar mas cerca de El!

· Por los planes a largo plazo…nos quedaremos aquí? Ir a otro país? Cuál? No estamos apuradas para tomar éstas decisiones, pero no lastima a nadie empezar a orar por eso ahora!

· Por nuestra nueva iglesia, para que todos podamos estar unidos de la forma en que Dios lo desea!
